We’d make a medallion, fashioning a dandelion daisy chain, awarded to whoever came first.

You’d heard it said snapped stems were cursed, encouraging incontinence in those responsible for the plucking, but it never worked that way.

I was ecstatic, despite the dangled carrot, limping past the finishing line behind you.
